Jingle Bell Opinions

The season is well upon us now whether you are Christian or not. There is no hiding from it and without a doubt I have a few opinions about this as well as one other that has come up this past week.

First off the Christmas spirit is alive and well in my neck of the woods. And I think this is a good thing. Having one short time in the whole year when we spend time thinking about someone other than ourselves has to be a good thing. Oh there are people out there who are very generous with their time, money or effort all year long who work for lots of worthy causes. But for the rest of us who are not always that great at practicing generosity and kindness to others all year long we get a concentrated dose of thinking about others during the Christmas season. This is a good thing even if all we can muster is to find a gift for that person we don't really care that much for. All is good. And you don't have to be a Christian to feel the effects of the Santa Claus phenomena which by the way I don't see any connection to Christianity in this heavy set man in a bright red suit. This is who we are really thinking of as we rush around buying gifts and preparing the favourite foods for our friends and families.

This is my kind of Santa now. Wise and with a sense of humour

Mrs. Claus always played a big part in our gift giving and she still does.

The Justin Trudeau phenomena is just getting started and this is another phenomena I believe is a good thing. I heard this morning that those who protest that he is just a pretty boy trying to be a celebrity are mostly old white guys. Surprised? No. Apparently this is a similar demographic to Donald Trump's strongest advocates. I am pleased most of us who do support the new era of politics in Canada --beauty and brains --do not fit into that category. I do know a number of old white guys who do not fit this profile either but it's too bad they seem to be the  minority in both countries. In my opinion when someone's power is threatened (especially if they grew up expecting it would be theirs by right of gender) the fear sets in and the fight to keep it can get pretty nasty. But women have known about that for a very long time.

Why would we have a problem with a modern couple leading our country out of the backwoods?

PS. I really don't believe the majority of Canadians really care if we say Merry Christmas to them if they are not Christians. Someone decided to make a big deal out of this and it has taken on a life of it's own. When I say Happy Holidays I am not being politically correct. I really mean it cause sometimes holidays can be awful. I wish only the happiest of holidays for everyone and a Merry Christmas.
